When I was a kid, my father would take us on very long walks in the Australian Summer heat, in far east Victoria- a place called Swifts creek. He had gold mining claims there that needed to be staked and maintained. We would walk all day, carrying posts, digging holes, slipping and sliding up and down deep embankments. Sunset was a welcome sight. The light in the bush would change and we would stumble down back into the valley to camp the night, bony tired, thirsty and hot. The colour of the sky would wash out and the bush would start to glow in the dipping sun.
Essentially this painting is all about light and dark. I adore impressionism and so this was very much about creating changing light in a moment in time in the Australian bush. I also like bendy trees and bushes, so they have to be featured there.
It's an absolute jewel of a painting - would be stunning as a feature piece on a large wall.
