I love all things Roman and the paintings of the Renaissance and this piece encompasses just that, to me. Painting round objects and creating a lusciousness with light and dark is so enjoyable. Every painting should have an interesting background. For me it , it gives me pause to wonder what else is happening in the background...life goes on around the subject.
