Title : Gone For The Day
Artist : Rod Moore
Medium : Oil On Canvas
Size : 93cm x 67.5 cm
Framed : Framed in Oak Float Frame
Some days aren’t measured in hours, but in sunshine, salty air, and the gentle rhythm of the tide. Gone For The Day, a 90 x 66 cm original oil painting by Rod Moore, beautifully captures the essence of such a moment where time slows, cares are left behind, and the only agenda is fishing, friendship, and freedom. Rendered in rich, sunlit tones and soft ocean hues, this work evokes the carefree spirit of coastal life and the nostalgia of long, golden beach days.
Three figures stand barefoot on the wet sand, their reflections glistening in the shallow water. Fishing rods and tackle buckets are scattered casually, evidence of an unhurried pursuit. Each child is absorbed in the moment, one inspects a line, another checks a catch, while the third strolls along the shoreline with a red bucket in hand. Their clothes, sun hats, rolled sleeves, and weathered shorts tell of experience and play. The scene feels familiar, almost cinematic, as if pulled from the viewer’s own memory.
The backdrop is a dreamscape of soft mist and rugged headland, where the hills rise into a moody sky brushed with passing clouds. A curtain of trees veils the shoreline, adding depth and contrast to the turquoise sea. Gulls dot the sky, completing the coastal tableau with a sense of movement and life. Rod Moore’s brushwork is loose and expressive, yet precise where it matters capturing the lapping waves, the warm shimmer of wet sand, and the posture of young bodies fully immersed in the day’s simple pleasures.
The title, Gone For The Day, says it all. There’s no rush here just an invitation to be present, to unwind, to remember what it means to lose yourself in nature and not need to be found. For many, it will spark memories of family holidays, childhood adventures, and spontaneous day trips that live forever in the heart.
This painting is deeply personal to Rod Moore, who draws inspiration from his own upbringing in the Dandenong Ranges. As a boy, weekends and afternoons meant venturing into the bush or heading to the coast, where the creeks and beaches became an endless source of play and discovery. Fishing, like yabbing in the hill streams, was not just a pastime, but a ritual of youth. Gone For The Day is a love letter to those long-lost hours of sunlight, where the line between leisure and adventure was beautifully blurred.
Painted in oils on loose canvas, the piece allows flexibility for collectors or galleries to choose their own framing approach, or to mount it in a way that complements their space. At 90 x 66 cm, it offers an impactful presence on any wall, ideal for coastal homes, holiday retreats, or spaces that celebrate the outdoors and a slower pace of life.
As an established Australian landscape artist, Rod Moore’s works are increasingly sought after by collectors who value both his technical skill and his ability to tell deeply personal, emotionally resonant stories through paint. Gone For The Day represents not only a beautifully executed scene, but also a highly collectable original. An investment in fine Australian art that promises to grow in value as Moore’s recognition continues to expand.
Gone For The Day is more than a beach scene, it’s a moment captured in time, rich with story and memory. Whether you're drawn to its relaxed atmosphere, painterly execution, or the feelings it evokes, this work stands as a quiet but powerful celebration of childhood, nature, and the freedom of a day well spent.

Hi Angie. Just letting you know that your gorgeous painting has arrived and I love it. Actually I love all of you works and hope to purchase more in the future, but for now I am happily deciding where to hang this one!!! Near the kitchen and drinks cabinet. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
Hello Angela, My painting has arrived safely and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!! Thank you.
Hi Angela! just wanted to let you know I received my (your art ? today 'Garden Magnolias 9') and I love it! It's even more beautiful in real life. Thank you so much! I've been admiring your artwork for a while and when saw it on The Block I thought I'd better be quick. Thanks again. Oh and the framing is great too.
Pride of place. It literally jumps off the wall, and just like in real life it reveals more, and changes with the light of the day. A masterpiece.
Hi Angie, I hope this message finds you well & happy. I just wanted to send you a quick message to let you know my paintings arrived safe & sound. My goodness, they are even better in real life!! I adore them & find myself stopping & staring at them in wonder (I even caught my partner doing it too). I feel so very lucky that I can have such gorgeous artworks in my home. So I wanted to write to say thank you again. They have brought me so much joy already & I know they will continue to do so into the future. Best wishes (& I will be in contact again once I have saved enough for another commission).
Dear Angela, we have just received your beautiful painting and are absolutely thrilled with it. Although our semi rural home in Berry is by no means remote, our children always have those home again feelings when returning from the city. It is such a lovely piece of art. Hopefully we can commission you for something larger soon. Best wishes.
Love love the painting! Can't stop staring at it for the light it gives off (somehow!?) We are in a temporary set up, so I've got it with all our nice furniture (kids toys!) for now ? I really love it. I like so many of your pieces, I'll definitely buy another one when I can. Hopefully something a bit bigger next time but this fruit bowl is perfect. So reminiscent of something my granny would love and the green background (and the banana!) won me over. Thanks again!!
Angela, I received Olive Branches 2 today. WOW. I'M ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTED.
Hi Angie. The delivery went smoothly despite us having unusual arrangements. We love the painting and are really happy with your work and our purchase. Making a substantial expenditure on an item like this that you've only seen online is a bit nerve-wracking but we're thrilled. Thanks again & warm regards.
Hi Angela. Mum and I saw the Bundarra painting last night. My family can’t wait to give it to my dad. He has no idea! Will film and send you the video when he receives it. It will be interesting to see his response. Thank you Angela for this wonderful art work and your prompt and easy going communication to make this happen.
Dear Angela, This afternoon, I returned home from an appointment to find a rather large package safely placed on my front porch. I cannot tell you just how happy I was. My husband brought it into the house and we placed it on the floor in our family room. You may not believe this, but I felt so nervous and excited, both at the same time, as Paul carefully removed the packaging. Angela, I actually was overwhelmed with joy when I saw your absolutely magnificent painting, that I cried. I loved it when I saw it online, and l am so very proud to have this beautiful painting of yours in my home. My darling daughters, they are twins and have young family’s, both love Australian artwork and one especially found you for me. I fell in love with your Garden Walk paintings and have always loved roses ever since I was very young. My grandmother had beautiful roses in her garden, as do I still now at my home. I have probably rambled on for far too long, but once again, thank you and God bless. Oh and by the way, my husband loved it too. Kind regards.
I - and more importantly my wife - was overjoyed with the quality of the commissioned piece. It was exactly what I was after: a special unique gift that will be timeless and indeed more treasured as the years go on. Besides the quality of the artwork itself, I cannot fault the ease of ordering and liaison with you, the ease of the e-commerce front end and the personalised hand delivery of the finished artwork. I have already sung your praises to a few others that like special pieces so hopefully some follow in work will come your way!
This was a commissioned piece of a walking track with ocean and mountain views, in Apollo Bay - our happy place. My husband and I gifted it to each-other as a wedding anniversary token. We splashed out a bit extra on a gift to each-other,since the last 2 years were riddled with covid and all its lockdowns. There is always a degree of uncertainty when you seek a commissioned piece, and you need to remember that your vision may have a different interpretation to the artist’s perceptions. We were open-minded to this and prepared to accept the artist’s (Angie’s) interpretation. But Angie worked to the brief flawlessly, and we are beyond thrilled with our piece. It sits in our lounge area, where most of our time is spent when we are home, so that we can enjoy it to its fullest. And when we aren’t in Apollo Bay in person, looking at this artwork transports us there mentally. All the family love it, and visitors admire it also.’ We could never thank you enough Angie- it brings us so much joy. Thanks Angie - it is much loved
Hi Angela Hawkey, I hope that all is well with you, and once again I have to say how very excited I was to receive my amazing artwork ‘Country Dreamer’. Your artwork takes pride of place in my home, where my family and friend’s can enjoy its distinctive beauty. It is so beautiful and over the course of the day, the ever changing light brings life to this painting. Angela Hawkey, in closing I would like you to know that I can honestly say that your magnificent artworks bring me so much joy every day.
