With this Collection I wanted to make beautiful feminine pop/street art!
Drawing inspiration from Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe Diptych the idea came to me when I was researching Marilyn, she was once inappropriately asked what she wears to bed? She cleverly said “I only wear Chanel No5!” As she didn’t want to say nude! So I put the 2 together.
Ironically Marilyn loved and always wore Chanel No5 but was never used in any advertising for Chanel until 2013.
The effect I wanted was for it to look like a wall of advertising/old posters/photos.
By repeating one image again and again there is no focal point, so it forces the viewers eyes to wonder and dart across the canvas.
It has been created with stencils, using a monochrome palette.
Signed on the front ‘Debstar’ my street name :) and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity
