The art I create is characterized by highly textured surfaces, with thick, luscious layers of paint applied using a palette knife to achieve contrast and depth. My work is often dreamlike, inviting viewers to journey to familiar, beloved places or to far-off, exotic destinations. One of my guiding inspirations comes from a Renoir quote: “Why shouldn’t art be pretty? There are enough unpleasant things in life without us fabricating more.” This sentiment resonates deeply with me, and I strive to bring beauty and serenity to the forefront of every piece I produce.
Having my art featured on The Block and being a Block Shop artist feels like a dream come true. I've been a huge fan of the show from the very beginning, even taking my kids to visit the homes in past seasons. To now have my work included in The Block Shop is beyond exciting!
I love to create art in my home studio, nestled in the Gold Coast hinterland. The space offers a beautiful view of the surrounding native Australian bushland, providing a peaceful and inspiring environment that's perfect for fostering creativity.
A typical day involves much more than just creating art. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work, so I try to balance the less exciting tasks with the joy of painting. I’m fortunate that my husband works with me and handles most of the “serious stuff.” My day often starts with the school run (we take turns), and once the house is quiet, I settle in with a coffee in the studio. We usually have a quick chat about our plans for the day, and then I dive into painting. I still pinch myself sometimes, thinking I get to call this my “work.” I’m incredibly grateful!
