Angela Hawkey — Celebrating Joy Through Colour And Texture

Angela “Angie” Hawkey is a contemporary Australian artist based on the Gold Coast, known for her exuberant and textured oil paintings that bring colour, joy and a playful spirit into interiors around the world.

Artistic Roots and Passion

Art has been part of Angela’s life since childhood. Introduced to the creative world by her grandfather—a landscape artist—she developed an early fascination with visual expression. Over the years she explored many mediums, but her heart found its home in palette knife oil painting, a technique that allows her to apply paint thickly and energetically, giving her canvases a tactile, layered richness.

Signature Style

Angie doesn’t aim for photographic realism. Instead, her work focuses on texture, color and joyful expression. Her paintings often feature:

Vibrant Australian landscapes with bold hues and expressive strokes

Textured still life and floral compositions

Beach and seascape scenes imbued with atmosphere and life

Her pieces are distinguished by the generously applied oil paint—so thick and buttery that viewers are often tempted to touch the surface. For Angel Hawkey, that dimensionality adds extra life and invites a sensory connection beyond the visual.

Angela’s approach is playful and instinctive. She often begins with a subject or idea but welcomes deviation, embracing spontaneous brushwork and unexpected results that bring freshness and vibrancy to her art. Her background as a photographer enhances her ability to notice fleeting moments of beauty—whether in nature or everyday scenes—and reimagines them with bold palettes and joyful composition.

For her, art isn’t about perfection: it’s about capturing an emotional response and stirring a sense of optimism in those who experience it. Her work reflects a belief that even in areas of moodiness or shadow, there is room for spark and light.

Angela’s art attracts collectors worldwide, with works held in private collections across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia.

Beyond her personal studio practice, Angie also contributes to the broader art scene on the Gold Coast. She is the founder of the Gold Coast Gallery of Art, established in 2024, which aims to support fellow artists and bring uplifting, inspiring artwork to the community. The gallery champions pieces that stir the heart and elevate the spirit, reflecting Angela’s core beliefs about the role of art in everyday life.

Angela Hawkey’s work is a celebration of colour, texture, and life’s fleeting joys. Through oils applied with confident palette knife strokes, she transforms familiar scenes into expressive compositions that invite connection and delight. Whether through original pieces or fine art prints, her work continues to bring warmth and vibrancy into homes and collections around the world—affirming art’s ability to lift the spirit and awaken the imagination.
